Great pics above. :)

I've sadly neglected my garden blog too, too much going on otherwise I think... (the veg have tasted lovely though and what bliss to be able to just walk out into the garden and pick them for tea...)

Your sunflowers are huge!

i have t-bird, and am hoping. that area doesn't seem to have been v good for plums, so if they all die, will put espalier apples there instead.

Three cheers for strawberries!

could you try cutting the plum back to an inch or two below the dead area and see if it helps? Just in case it's a disease tracking down?

i guess northern habits die hard! they could easily be frosted still, and we gardened then on solid clay - really slow to warm up, and plagues of slugs, so big and beautiful when they went in was best!
most of the salads i do as come again crops.
maybe next year i will be bolder at putting them out!
oh, and also, the weeding is a bit behind - easier to pot on!!

well, i have to say we are a bit notoriously poor at cutting the grass regularly. the children don't mind the meadow look. it usually gets done in the eve when they are in bed. if you have one at 16 months and had a sling, you could do it with that. but a job best done when they are asleep.
do it, it is fun to do with your child. planting big bulbs [non poisonous if they are the trying to eat it kind!!] cheap and cheerful annual flowers for them to pick, and also easy veggies that they can investigate and eat - peas are a real winner as there is the fun of podding them and eating them in the garden, and little maintenance.

How do you cut the grass with them around? I am considering gardening with my baby. I am a first time gardener and mom. She is 16 months and getting very acquainted with our yard. My hubby does not cut grass because he has allergies. So I have been thinking of propositioning to take the grass cutting money he invests bi-weekly and use it to garden. I am a stay at home mom who does some home schooling already.

Am I being unrealistic. No I have no nanny. But the yard is the only place I can let her roam for a while without her knocking down everything. It is currently giving me some time to read and relax.

I might be in over my head, but I am thinking of trying. Ps I am not really a girly girl (more of a techie, former childhood tree climbing girl). What do you think?

very impressed at all your potting on. I sow and chuck out. So chucked out so far have been courgettes, pumpkins, runners, french beans, sweetcorn, have sown some stuff outside now too carrots, borage, parsley, radishes, all bordered by calendula. Have artichokes looking for a bed home somewhere, dunno where though, must sow some more beans too. Have also done some salad stuff in pots near the back door, as I'm more likely to use it before it bolts that way! Choose leaves you can just pick as you go along, rather than whole heads. have spare courgettes and squashes still in pots too. Also have a tray of seedlings that I have no idea what they are!! oops!

lol

But joking aside - we shouldn't forget that cutting electrical cables whilst mowing the lawn can be very dangerous! these 'grass snake' devices are great... I'd also recommend using an RCD device, which will cut the power supply if any cables become damaged whilst mowing.

you have no idea how jealous I am of your conservatory!!!! Aprilia says we need one so we can have a giant grape vine too, not sure she quite understands that it won't be as impressive as yours until she's showing it to her grandkids though!
